Week of March 1st – Kids Grow with STEM (PK3 to 8)
What is STEM? Let’s break it down for you, STEM stands for S = Science, T = Technology, E = Engineering, and M = Mathematics and is a part of our everyday lives. Students with a STEM-based education develop, practice and excel with 21st Century skills of creativity, collaboration, critical thinking, and communication. Plus, STEM makes learning approachable for kids with hands-on math and science lessons and engages them with real-world problem solving! These are our PK3 through 8th STEM magnet school options. Week of February 22nd – College Campus Connection
Start your child’s future at one our magnet schools for middle school and high school age students located on a college campus. Students learn in the college community and access the advantages of earning college credits, preparing for college while in high school, participating in internships, and building relationships with business and industry partners that help prepare them for their future!

Week of February 15th – Pre-K Potential!
Attention Hartford and suburban families interested in prekindergarten opportunities. We have nearly two dozen Magnet Schools in the Greater Hartford Region that are accepting applications for Pre-K age 3 and Pre-K age 4 students. Students learn, play, and interact with other children 5-days a week through hands-on learning designed specifically for their age group!
Age requirements for incoming pre-kindergarten students:
- PRE-K Age 3: Child was born between September 1, 2017 and December 31, 2018; or
- PRE-K Age 4: Child was born between September 1, 2016 and December 31, 2017.
Week of February 8th Mix of Magnet Schools
This week we are featuring a Mix of Magnet Schools! This is a small sampling of the 40 different magnet schools that families may apply to in the Greater Hartford Region. Magnet schools offer distinctive themes, smaller classroom size, and grade levels ranging from PK3 through 12th grade. One of these schools may be a perfect fit for your child!

This week we are featuring some of our incredible elementary magnet schools that begin enrolling students starting as early as PK3 (age 3). We are accepting applications for all grade levels, not just entry level grades!

This week we are featuring our Open Choice Program that offers high quality academic programming in culturally diverse and enriching school communities. Through Open Choice, Harford resident students attend nearby suburban towns and suburban students attend participating Hartford public schools.
Open Choice for Hartford Resident Students (PK4 to 10)
Attention Hartford families with children entering Pre-Kindergarten Age 4 through Grade 10!
The Open Choice Program is a free program that allows Hartford-resident students to access high-quality academic programming outside of their home district while learning in culturally diverse and enriching school communities. Students learn and play alongside students from a school district outside of Hartford to enrich their learning experience and prepare them for future success in college and beyond.
