School Overview
Kinsella Magnet School of Performing Arts offers a prekindergarten through Grade 12 visual and performing arts-themed continuum education with a direct pathway to the 9–12 high school from the prekindergarten grade 8 program.
Kinsella is not just a school — it’s a feeling!
Comprehensive training, cultural exposure, and arts integration are three strategic pillars of the Kinsella approach. Comprehensive Training refers to the total and complete spectrum of performing arts instruction offered. Students actively learn and demonstrate the processes of creating, performing, and responding. Students are taught by certified drama, dance, production, stage craft, instrumental, and vocal arts educators! Cultural exposure means Kinsella students attend a broad range of plays, dance, and music concerts. In addition to seeing productions outside of the building, visiting artists come to the school to work with students to deepen their perception, critical thinking, and decoding skills. Each cultural experience strengthens students’ abilities to comprehend visual, verbal, and physical communication. The curriculum at Kinsella Magnet School is strongly integrated with the performing arts and aligns with national and state education standards. Students make relevant connections from text to life and emotionally invest in the learning process. Infused rigorous academic plans with performing art disciplines provide stimulating portunities for students to retain the academic content and profoundly express their ideas. The 9-12 program is located in a new, state-of-the-art facility with ultra-modern dance studios, a Black Box Theater, music rooms, and more. Students enjoy the opportunity for enhanced theme development, extended college and career options, and extensive community partnerships. Ninth grade students select a primary area of focus based on their talents and interests — dance, drama, production and design, or vocal — and can build a strong portfolio of experience to ensure their success in college and beyond!
