The Environmental Science theme provides a rich elementary and middle school experience designed to prepare students to enter high quality high school science and technology programs. The theme integrates science focused on land, water, and air throughout the core curriculum. As an Environmental Science magnet school, the goal is to educate students to become responsible citizens who take an active part in protecting and caring for our global environment.

School Message Board

Welcome to Environmental Sciences Magnet at Hooker School!

We are delighted that your child has received an invitation to attend our Magnet School for the 2022-2023 School Year.  To secure your child’s seat for the upcoming school year, please follow this two-step acceptance and registration process.    

  1. Accept your child’s seat by logging in to your RSCO account and adhere to the RSCO deadline. We encourage you to submit your response as soon as possible. 
    • Please note: if you opt to decline the placement seat, your child will not receive another placement offer for the 2022-2023 school year.
  2. Register your child by completing the on-line registration.  All registration documents must be received to officially enroll your child at our school.  Please refer to the list below of required documents.
    • Child’s Birth Certificate
    • Parent/Guardian Photo ID – Driver’s License, Passport, or Government issued ID
    • Proof of Residency (utility bill such as cable, light, gas, water, home or car insurance or property tax bill)
    • State of CT Health Assessment Record Form. An updated physical is required for all students.
    • Authorization for Release of Student Records (if applicable).

School Overview

The Environmental Sciences Magnet School at Mary Hooker offers a comprehensive program that includes inquiry-based, hands-on investigations of our local and global environments. Using the new, state-of-the-art building and campus, students monitor, test and collect data throughout the year, noting human impacts on our environment. The building and campus provide many different ecosystems and labs that allow students to work side by side with a resident marine scientist and entomologist, exploring local living organisms from plants to butterflies.

The Environmental Science theme provides a rich elementary and middle school experience designed to prepare students to enter high quality high school science and technology programs. The students’ experiences allow them to develop the critical thinking skills required for success in the emerging fields of medicine, engineering and environmental sciences.

School Report Card – the Connecticut State Department of Education (CSDE) has prepared this report, which includes information about student enrollment, student achievement, student and teacher diversity, and much more.

Sports, Clubs & Activities

Students participate in weekly self-selected, interest-based enrichment groups that meet for 8 weeks. Past offerings: Community Service, Cross Country, Photography, Environmental Action Team, Forensics, Journalism
